A reunion of experiences of life. that is what it is Morungaba.
When it born it needed a name that represented the peculiar work done by the creator of the project, Renata Macedo Soares.
The Morungaba had a great period of internal gestation, not simply born. Were year of childrens plays in a square named Morungaba, the only word in tupi-guarani that this child, when grown older, realy knew. After that, every day after school this young lady played, spontaneous, opening her bag and sundely these childrens came from Jaguaré slum to play with her. Some photos were taken and the importance of this interaction revealed itself for her.
Others experiences with the one that is diferent along this gestation gave form to the ideal of promoting the exercise of citizenship and increase in value of human being.
Renata Macedo Soares is a speech therapist and dance teacher since 1978, and master in Disturbances of the Communication for the PUC-SP. Defended the thesis
Dance / Art of Movement for hearing deficients and, after a stay in England doing a course of university extension in Laban Center for Movement and Dance in London, studying at The British Council, in 1989 the Morungaba was ready to be born.
Uniting then several meanings of the word Morungaba, in the tupi-guarani and in the history of Renata, something fundamentally beautiful was revealed (Morungaba - poran'gaba = porang: pretty, beautiful + aba: beauty), a place to where people can directing (Morungaba - of morõ'kaba: the landmark, the limit, the sign) and work like in a beehive (Morungaba - beehive of morungas, producing bees of the most sweet honey), building, producing and each one with its role in this task, to assure to the individuals a space of cooperation and inclusion through the dance and arts.
The Morungaba has in his routs the respect to diferences, working in a playful process, creative and non competitive.
The goals of Morungaba won strenght a year after his birth, in 1990, when there comes into force the Statute of the Child and Adolescent whom says:
"It is the duty of the family, community, society in general and the public authority to ensure, with absolute priority, effective implementation of the rights to life, health, nutrition, education, sports, leisure, vocational training, culture, dignity, respect, freedom and family and community living" (art. 4th from Statute of the Child and Adolescent)
"No child or adolescent will be subject to any form of negligence, discrimination, exploitation, violence, cruelty and oppression, and any violation of their fundamental rights, either by act or omission, will be punished according to the terms of the Law." (art.5th from Statute of the Child and Adolescent)
And since then Morungaba stopped being just a word, a name, and became a way of life, and ideal of transcending barriers that cause impacts, to reveal peoples.
"The first time I went to Morungaba I was very tense, and with the help of Morungaba in dance and in others things of my life realy - personal - I was released... Morungaba, ah... I think it will be dificult to forget."
Helena Maranhão, former student of the Morungaba Center, with physical deficiency.
